Yes ! Jodrell Side WI had a meeting in August ! It was actually an outside picnic and in true WI style we all brought our own sandwiches, cakes and chairs. The weather for the afternoon picnic was warm and sunny. We sat in the field belonging to Goostrey Scout Hut. The WI bunting was out in force as were our members. Everyone was treated to a lovely glass of fizz and we were off!

President Pat Alston opened the meeting with much ‘joie de vivre’ as we celebrated our first meeting for a very long time with plenty to catch up on. Of course a rendition of Jerusalem would

have been the icing on the cake - though not this time ! ( I reckon The Crown clientele would have thought we had all gone slightly mad ! ! ) Many ladies paraded their beautifully made and decorated summer hats for our competition of ‘best hat’. A very original and completely homemade hat was decided as the clear winner. There was such a great energy of pleasure throughout the whole afternoon. I think this was just what many people needed to kickstart and give confidence for moving forward, despite the pandemic. I hope everyone went home with a

renewed vigour.

Pat Howitt:
I am very new to this position as I was only elected in November

I joined Jodrell Side about 8 years ago, having been persuaded by friends to go along as a visitor, I was very reluctant as I had always insisted the WI was not my 'thing' like many people I thought it was all about JAMS ,CAKES, and CRAFTS. Well of course those things do feature strongly in WI but as I discovered you do not have to be involved in these things if they are of no interest to you.

WI is about so much more, there really is something for everyone, you only have to look at all the activities to see what a lively group we are. Our 60 members certainly seem to enjoy themselves, if you are new to the area it is a great way to meet people.

If you would like to come along and see what we get up to you would be made very welcome. Just contact our secretary Pat Ingram, or if you know any members just come along with them. I am so pleased that I did.
