My name is Jean Webb and I am now President of Jodrell Side WI. I follow some very good ladies and hope I won’t let the side down.

When my husband David and I decided to downsize to a bungalow, we could not find one in Wilmslow where we had lived for 35 years, so widened the search area and found what we wanted in Goostrey. A few days after moving in, I was walking the dog when I met a neighbour also called Jean. She looked very smart and I asked where she was going. “Oh I am waiting for the coach, I am going to Shrewsbury today with the WI.” I said I would like to be a member, so was immediately invited for coffee with some other members. It certainly brought me in touch with a wonderful group of ladies in the village. Nine years on including six years as Treasurer, we are having a change of jobs in Committee.
During COVID and lockdowns we managed to keep in touch with the members, meeting when we could in different gardens and walks, small presents at Easter and Christmas and knitting squares to make blankets for Hostels. Gradually ladies came back and we celebrated with a picnic. Needless to say there is always a glass of wine!   Every year we try and do something a little different, but we still have the basic of good speakers, outings by train, craft and chatter groups, walking and quizzing. This year we are having our annual jumble sale at the end of February, cancelled during COVID, as our main fund raising exercise.
I really enjoy Jodrell Side WI, I have made many friends in and around the village. It’s a lovely place to be.
