February this year brought the culmination of a two-year project which has given the village of Goostrey a wonderful textile depicting village life. It was in the Summer of 2022 at one of the regular Jodrell Side W.I. Craft and Chat sessions that the idea was suggested. The sudden death of Queen Elizabeth focused minds and the project became a celebration of the Kings Coronation. A small sub-committee was formed of Pat Alston, Pat Ingram and Jean Webb led by Ann Thorp with Debbie Goldsmith liaising with the primary school. The whole village was invited to join in including the local primary school, Goostrey W.I. and individual stitchers. The children provided drawings of what Goostrey meant to them, farm animals, trees and vehicles. These pictures were subsequently transferred to fabric and embroidered by the adults. The result was a fantastic collection of individual pieces produced in different techniques over hundreds of hours of painstaking needlework. The colourful wall hanging depicts village landmarks, local pubs, shops and buildings on a background of Sara Nisha Adams.

Friends of Goostrey Station have won the national Community Rail photo competition. The award ceremony took place in Swansea in front of over 400 guests. There were 180 entries in 19 categories and FOGS have achieved first place in one of them.

Cheshire is unique in having its own Best Kept Station competition. On 12th March, FoGS members attended their awards evening and received the award for an Art Project. This recognised the Platinum Plaque and the Coronation Discs which celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee and King Charles’ coronation. FOGS have now won 9 awards in this competition since volunteers adopted Goostrey station in 2012 - a remarkable achievement.

Jodrell Side WI Put On A Great Show!

The SOS Fashion Show held by our WI on Friday 23rd February 2024 proved a real success. Our very own ladies stepped up as models for the evening, showing off a fabulous range of clothing from high street brands, to Italian designer wear. The village hall was full to the brim with spectators who appeared to be having a great time, enjoying a glass of wine and taking home some super prizes in the raffle as well as some new purchases for the summer ahead.
